Not Medical, Fitness, Nutrition, or Training Advice
GymRec’s calculators — the one-rep max (1RM) calculator, the barbell plate calculator, the training volume calculator, the rep-max percentage calculator, the protein & macro calculator, and the Wilks & relative strength calculator — produce general estimates. They do not constitute medical, fitness, nutrition, or training advice, and they are not a diagnosis, a prescription, or a coaching program. The figures they return are planning aids, not guarantees. Always consult a qualified physician before starting a new exercise program — especially if you have an injury, are pregnant, or have any heart, blood-pressure, or other health condition — a certified strength coach for lifting technique and loading, and a registered dietitian for nutrition.
Estimates From Standard Formulas
One-rep max figures are estimates from standard equations such as the Epley and Brzycki formulas, which disagree with each other and grow less reliable the further you get from a true single. Wilks scores use the published Wilks coefficient to compare strength relative to bodyweight. Protein and macro targets come from common bodyweight-based splits, not a personalized nutrition plan. All of these are approximations: individual results vary with training age, technique, leverages, recovery, sleep, and dozens of other factors the tools cannot see. Treat every output as a starting point to test in the gym, not a measured fact.
You Supply the Weights and Reps
A result is only as accurate as the numbers you enter. Bodyweight, lift load, rep count, set count, target weight, bar weight, and available plates all come from you, and a mistyped figure or the wrong unit (kilograms versus pounds) is the most common cause of a surprising answer. It is your responsibility to confirm the correct, current values for your own training before relying on a result.
Why Your Real Numbers May Differ
What actually happens under the bar can differ from an estimate because of:
- Rep range: max-estimate formulas are most accurate at low reps and drift higher or lower as the rep count climbs.
- Lift and technique: the same formula behaves differently for a squat, bench, or deadlift, and your leverages and form change the result.
- Readiness: sleep, fatigue, nutrition, and stress move your real max day to day, independent of any calculation.
- Equipment: bar weight, plate calibration, collars, and rounding to the plates you actually own affect loaded weight.
Lifting Carries Injury Risk
Training with heavy loads carries a real risk of injury. Do not treat an estimated max or a percentage as permission to attempt a weight you are not prepared for. Always warm up thoroughly, use proper form, and set up safeties — a rack’s safety pins, spotters, or bailout options — before attempting a heavy or near-maximal lift. If a movement causes pain, stop and seek advice from a qualified professional.
